    Time:9.00 AM-5.30 PM

INTELLIGENT PRODUCT DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Manufacturing in the 21st century faces several challenges such as shorter product life cycles, frequent design revisions and the need for shortest time to market to meet the global competition.

During the last decade, CAD / CAM/ CIM tools were developed to automate and integrate various phases of the product cycle like design, analysis, planning, production and inspection. They provided significant benefits in terms of enhanced productivity and product quality, but had little flexibility to incorporate the knowledge and heuristic reasoning ability of the human experts.

Today the focus worldwide is on the development of Intelligent CAD/CAM systems to mimic the reasoning ability of human experts by using the techniques of Artificial Intelligence. (AI) Intelligent Manufacturing primarily addresses the issues of integrating product design through manufacturing activities using computer tools for Knowledge Representation such as Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic and Genetic Algorithms. Applications include practically every aspect of design and manufacture, typical being intelligent product modeling, process and assembly planning, rapid prototyping, mould and die design, intelligent layout planning and web based Collaborative engineering.
