On stand 4B22 at Interpack, Delcam will be showing the latest versions of its Power Solution range of software for the design, decoration and manufacture of packaging, chocolates, biscuits and confectionery. Delcam's software is used by over 3,500 companies in more than 50 countries, including leading packaging industry organisations like RPC in the UK, Sidel in France, Graham Packaging in the US and SIPA in Italy.

The current rapid changes in fashion mean that the time to market for new packaging concepts must be quicker than ever. In addition, clients are now demanding higher quality and greater accuracy. Delcam's Power Solution helps packaging designers and manufacturers meet all these demands, with a combination of fast, flexible product design, quick and easy decoration, and rapid, accurate production of both initial samples and tooling for mass production. 

For the designer, CAD models can be modified far more quickly than physical models, allowing a greater variety of designs to be evaluated. Different surface decorations and textures can be added easily, allowing many more options to be presented to the client.

Processes such as fill line calculation and scaling of different sizes can be automated allowing the designer to concentrate on the form of the product and leave the system to calculate the physical properties, such as the volume or mass of the pack and its contents. This automation of routine operations increases accuracy, reduces the possibility of mistakes, and leaves more time for creative work. Standard parts and sections, such as closures, necks or thread forms, as well as different types of decoration, may be taken from a database of existing designs, again ensuring faster design times and also ensuring an exact fit between the pack and closure. 

High quality product visualisations allow unsuitable designs to be eliminated without the time and cost of physical model making. These images can also be used for market research and for the preparation of promotional materials.

Once the product design has been finalised, Delcam software can ensure the fastest possible move into mass production. The system can be used for the manufacture and inspection of all types of tooling, including moulds for packaging, closures, confectionary, chocolates and biscuits. Close integration between the various elements of the system allow the same design data to be used, for example, to produce a mould for a chocolate range and also the vacuum forming tools for both the packaging tray and the point of sale materials.

Delcam's Power Solution software can be integrated with related software, for example, analysis systems to optimise the wall thickness or to improve processing efficiency. It can be used alongside virtually any prototyping or manufacturing equipment. Finally, an inspection module allows prototypes, tooling and samples to be checked against the computer model to ensure that the designer's intent has been captured faithfully in the final product.
