Kennametal underlines commitment to European growth
On the back of positive trading, Kennametal has underlined its commitment to further growth by investment throughout Europe.
Some €12 million was invested in its European operations during the last fiscal year (July to June 2007). The Vohenstrauss in plant in Germany alone - carbide drilling products - hired more than 100 people, introduced a 6-day production week, while a "huge amount" of money was spent on new machinery (pictured).

Haas Automation Installs 75,000th CNC Machine Tool

It hardly seems possible, but on May 31, 2007, Haas Automation installed its 75,000th CNC machine tool. When one considers that more than two-thirds of that number have been sold in the last 7 years, and that the company designs and builds its machines at a single plant in Southern California – employing just 1100 people – it’s even more incredible. And to think, less than 20 years ago, skeptics the world over doubted that any U.S. company could ever build machine tools economically again, let alone on such a scale.

ANSYS Makes List of Top R&D Spenders
SOUTHPOINTE, Pa., May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANSYS, Inc. Delcam software helps Zytek to One-Two at Le Mans
Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM software helped cars with Zytek engines to first and second places in the LMP2 category at this month’s Le Mans 24-hours race. The winning Zytek-powered Binnie Motorsports Lola was the only car in the class to have an almost trouble free run. By contrast, the new Zytek 07S, run by Barazi-Epsilon in conjunction with Lowe’s Fernandez Racing, had a series of minor problems that kept it in second place after dominating practice, leading in the early stages and setting fastest lap.

New entry-level power supplies for stabilized industrial supply

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is supplementing its Sitop power supplies with a new range of stabilized units for the low-end performance range. The four new, primary switched-mode Sitop PSA 100E power packs with 230-volt connection and rated output currents of 2.5, 4, 6 and 12 amps meet the basic requirements of the industrial environment. These include the generously dimensioned voltage range from 187 to 264 V AC, the precisely stabilized output voltage, extensive protection functions against overload, and the compensation of voltage drops on long lines. The output voltage can be set between 23 and 26 volts for this purpose.
