Delcam to show new five-axis machining options at Great Lakes event
Delcam will demonstrate new options for five-axis machining in the latest versions of its PowerMILL and FeatureCAM CAM software during the Great Lakes show to be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from September 18th to 20th.
This new exposition and conference, organised by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers will showcase innovations and emerging technologies to help advance the manufacturing community in the Great Lakes Region. The two Delcam programs contribute to higher productivity by giving users an unrivalled ability to program equipment for milling, mill/turn, turning or wire EDM.

UGS NX - Human Modeling
NX™ Human Modeling enables designers to use 3D models of human beings to explore and verify how people of different sizes will interact with their product designs. Based on technology from UGS’ Tecnomatix™Jack, NX Human Modeling allows rapid evaluation of fit, clearance and reach issues without leaving the design environment. With human modeling integrated into NX product design tools, companies can develop safer, more functional products that have greater user satisfaction.

Delcam’s PartMaker gives high precision at high speed
Changing to Delcam’s PartMaker CAM system in 2006 has enabled HMP Industries, a generations-old machine shop in Ansonia, a sleepy town in Southern Connecticut, to be able to quote, program and set up parts much faster. HMP is upgrading its massive bank of more than 100 conventional machines to state-of-the-art CNC equipment, including a variety of multi-axis Swiss-type lathes, to focus on high-precision manufacturing of medical devices.

Simulation Speeds Cycle Times On Complex Parts
Tell Tool of Westfield, Massachusetts, is a shop that produces electronic engine controls and other system components for aircraft. Taking advantage of Vericut CNC simulation and optimization software from CGTech (Irvine, California), the company makes fuel-control units much differently today than it did just a few years ago. The software helps programmers arrive at more efficient tool paths and cutting conditions so the shop can use its machining centers more efficiently.

Robots Make A Clean Sweep
Manufacturers of intricately machined components face special part cleaning challenges. Burrs, chips and debris in the tiny crevices can compromise cleanliness specs and compound labor expenses. Because robotics are often relegated to unload/load tasks, they may be overlooked as a means to address these problems. As one Escanaba, Michigan-based Tier 1 supplier to major diesel engine manufacturers demonstrates, using robots to adequately clean and deburr parts with cavities, cross-holes, deep, tapped holes or other internal features is a real and potentially effective possibility.
