Experts from the manufacturing sector and allied industries conversed on the latest evolving technology of 3D printing at the 3D Printing Application to Delivery (3DPAD) conference organised by IBCI at Ahmedabad recently. The one-day event saw around 110 delegates from the industry expressing their views on additive manufacturing or 3D printing.
In his keynote address, Mr Nitin Mankad, the Vice-President of Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI) stated that this technology of 3D printing is a mass employment provider and needs to be supported at every level. “We at FGI, are committed to support this technology at Gujarat level and promote the same at national level so that its advantages are exploited by the industry,” Mr Mankad said and added that by organising this event, IBCI has taken a good initiative as these new technologies will facilitate industrial growth in the country.
The other speakers at the conference included Mr Nikhil Chowdary, Technical Head, Design and Prototyping Centre at ESCI, Hyderabad. He deliberated a knowledge session on ‘3D printing for accelerating the design and development cycle’. Similarly, Mr Subhankar Lahiri, Business Head (Manufacturing Vertical) of RICOH India discussed on ‘Collaborative and agile, design and concept development’ while Mr Yash Mevada, Founder and Managing Director of PrintOMake expressed his views on how 3D printing is going to change the world forever.
Besides tactical and descriptive sessions, the conference also had round table meetings, panel discussions and Q&A sessions on various topics related to 3D printing. The participants, who were different professionals from various industrial sectors, raised their questions on the technology which were satisfactorily answered by the esteemed panel.
The issue regards how India is using 3D printing to innovate was dwelt in a practical and efficient way by Mr Samarth Shah, Owner of Melting Mints while Mr Sandeep Thombre, Senior Manager (Product and Packaging Design), Tata Elxci enlightened the audience on design opportunities through 3D printing.
In conclusion, the speakers as well as the audience consented to investigate, innovate and implement the evolving technology of 3D printing so as to come up with a final product. According to those present at the conference, the technology plays an important role in various industries such as healthcare, FMCG, jewellery, footwear, artistic creations and above all manufacturing as it is not only cost effective, but also time consuming.
