CNCTimes.com programme on raw materials an eye-opener

CNCTimes.com (www.cnctimes.com), the gateway to the machine tool world, conducted a certification programme on ‘Raw Materials—Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Aluminium, HRSA-Properties and Industrial Applications’ recently. In all eight participants took part in the paid webinar aimed at informing the advancements and technological upgradation within the sector.

Mr. D K Mohan who has over 20 years of experience in Sales & Marketing in leading companies such as Sandvik Asia, Coromant, Dormer Tools, Snap-On Tools, Bahco, Lamina Tech. and Bipico Tools, NTB Hitech Ceramics etc. Mr. Mohan also has 6.5 years of experience in manufacturing & production with companies like Chicago Pneumatic Tools (CP Tools) and Larson and Toubro (L&T).

The main focus areas for the programme included important properties of a raw material in a manufacturing industry; selection of raw materials based on properties and their industrial applications; major raw materials used in a manufacturing industry; type of steels and their specifications; what role do alloying elements play in changing the properties as per the applications; stainless steel, types and their applications etc.

The key takeaways of the programme included understanding industrial applications and selecting material as per properties required; raw material classifications and compositions with alloying elements; understanding the role of alloying elements; concept of heat treatment and why and how; materials suitable for Automobiles, Defence, Aerospace and General engineering products; examples of day-to-day products we see with their applications and material suitable for those applications and a bit of metallurgy, understanding iron carbon & TTT diagrams.
