At IMTS 2014, Doosan’s exhibit will feature two dozen high performance CNC machines tools, nine of which will be on display for the very first time in North America. Among those are three completely new machine tool technologies from Doosan, the VCF850LSR, FM200/5AX and the Puma SMX3100S.
First is the Doosan VCF850LSR, a vertical machining centre featuring a traveling column design with available tilting spindle head. The VCF series is capable of machining a wide range of parts - utilising up to 5 axes simultaneously. Distinguishing the VCF series within the Doosan range is its generous work envelope, allowing 3,000mm (118”) of travel distance in the X-axis and 850mm (33.5”) of travel in the Y-axis. Furthermore, the series realises a high degree of flexibility through a wide range of configurations, including an optional tilting head, built-in 5-axis rotary table and an available centre divider allowing the operator to make chips on one side of the table, while setting-up the next job on the other.
Next is Doosan’s all new FM200/5AX Linear vertical machining centre. This high-speed, full contouring, 5-axis machining centre is built upon a rigid bridge design. The X, Y, and Z axes are driven by high precision linear motors, providing extra high-speed acceleration/deceleration and cutting federates. The 4th and 5th rotary axes feature a direct drive motor, matching the high speeds delivered in X,Y and Z. The spindle speed available on the FM200/5AX Linear is a blistering fast 45,000 RPM, to achieve the highest surface finish possible.
Finally, there is Doosan’s third generation Mill-Turn Multi-tasking Machine, the Puma SMX 3100S, set to make its North American debut at IMTS. The Puma SMX 3100S integrates the capabilities of a vertical machining centre and horizontal turning centre into one platform. The Puma SMX Series distinguishes itself with a more rigid 90? vertical axis and forward positioned automatic tool changer, for improved milling capabilities as well as enhanced operator ergonomics.
The Puma SMX Series will initially be available in two sizes, the Puma SMX2600, with a 10” chuck and 3.1” bar capacity, and the Puma SMX3100, featuring a larger 12” chuck with 4” of bar capacity. Both models have the capacity to machine parts up to 60” in length and 26” in diameter. The X1-axis travel is 24.8”, Z1-axis travel is 62.4” and the Y-axis is 11.8”. Rapid Traverse, X1, Z1 & Y: 50/50/36 m/min.
