LIVE PART CUTTING EVENT, Aurangabad

A Collaboration of Three Units

SolidCAM India, Rigicut Tools and Kutmaster provide an all-encompassing solution to their customers. All three of these organizations came together in Aurangabad for a Live Part Cutting event. It was a chance for our customers to see the abilities of all our products in person.

Rigicut Tools Pvt Ltd (Pune) has been in the business of manufacturing high-caliber carbide cutting tools for the past 41 years and have an extensive portfolio of brazed tools, profile tools, mills, and drills.

Kutmaster, based in Aurangabad and operational since 2019, is the exclusive partner of Pro-micron GmbH and provide “smart” toolholders that allow for better tracking of the tool while machining in terms of the forces acting on it, the temperature it is subjected to and the deflection it is experiencing.

While this is the physical apparatus required, when it comes to the software part, SolidCAM does the needful. We offer a fully integrated CAM solution with productivity and efficiency at the highest level.

The event started on 3rd January at the Marathwada Auto Cluster (Waluj), a government-funded infrastructure aimed at providing machining facilities to local industries to help them compete at the global level.

The part was machined on a Mazak Vertical Center Smart 530C, with a 10mm solid carbide end mill by Rigicut Tools and a Spike electronic toolholder. The part included 2.5D milling operations like face milling, profile milling, and open and closed pocket milling.

The event was a showcase of SolidCAM’s patented technology - iMachining. It uses the most favourable morphed spiral toolpath to its full advantage. It is also the only solution in the market for the age-old problem of guessing the correct cutting conditions (feed rate, spindle speed, depth of cut, etc.) for any part. iMachining automatically generates all these values for you, that too for each point on the toolpath, thus resulting in variable cutting conditions that are suitable for the part at any given point. The overall result of this is a constant cutting load at each point of the toolpath. This was captured by the sensor in the toolholder used and is displayed here.

Why SolidCAM?

Machinists are hesitant to rely on technology instead of their own experience when it comes to deciding cutting strategies. Seeing it in action, however, they can appreciate the reduction in time and effort that a good CAM software affords them.

We also had visits from some of our old customers. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation set up a machine tool manufacturing plant in India (MMC Hardmetal India Pvt Ltd, Waluj) in 2016 and they’ve been using SolidCAM for the last three years.

They use our services for their applications in continuous 5- and 7-axis machining, turning and turn mill machining. SolidCAM’s quick programming capabilities, the precision in machining and the learning aids incorporated inside the software itself, make it highly suitable for these applications.

A Field Visit

Among the visitors were also students from the mechanical department of Chh. Shahu College of Engineering, Aurangabad. As a learning experience, the event provided plenty to broaden their horizons. Field visits like these where students can see production themselves, in addition to learning about it in class, helps them appreciate the realities of the industry they’re going to be a part of in a few years.

The event was a launch of the comprehensive technology that SolidCAM, Rigicut Tools and Kutmaster offer together to the future of machining. It marks the beginning of this partnership, that strives to put the best, and more importantly complete, solution out into the market.
