The newly developed water-based EDBV8 (Electrical Discharge Blade and Vane) machine from Makino has been designed to produce the cooling and shaped diffuser holes for gas turbine engines for the Aerospace and Power Generation industries, and has been purpose built to deliver top performance and optimal speed while preventing internal work piece feature back striking.
The EDBV8 offers the same level of machine performance as the EDBV3, but provides larger machine travels and greater work piece payloads to accommodate the needs of larger Aerospace and Power Generation part details. The machine features a unique tooling system that integrates both automatic tool change and guide changing into one common assembly that can be quickly exchanged within 30 seconds.
The EDBV8 has also been configured with an integrated 2-Axis rotary table for positioning of the work piece. Additional features include pre-programmed cycles for shaped diffuser holes, intelligent electrode length management and internal water quality and temperature control systems. The EDBV8 utilises a 1000 rpm rotating spindle with high pressure flushing during machining, and can produce holes from 0.236” (6.0mm) down to 0.008” (0.200mm) in diameter.
To aid in the reliable performance of EDM Drilling small diameter holes, the machine includes an automatic Middle Guide Arm that supports the pipe electrode during operation and prevents the whipping or bending of the electrode. For details, visit www.makino.com
