The satellite city of Navi Mumbai was witness to ‘Weld India Expo 2015’, probably the only national-level exhibition of welding technology. The three-day exhibition concluded at CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Vashi, Navi Mumbai recently.
The show was inaugurated by Mr B Narayan, Group President (Projects and Procurement) of Reliance Industries Ltd. Speaking from the chair, Mr Narayan expressed satisfaction over the efforts taken by The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW) for promoting the technology and also contributing towards providing knowledge about the same. He also appealed to the industry to increase its participation and contribution in IIW activities.
Dr S Guruprasad, Director of Research and Development Establishment, Pune expressed the urgent need for incremental opening up of the public sector undertakings and private companies to share and nurture advances in technology and research. “Advancements in science belong to humanity and must be generously made available wherever an opportunity for its application exists,” he quipped.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Mr R Srinivasan, President of IIW said, “Indian welding industry needs to upgrade its technology and skills on priority and must embrace the global advances in the science and art of welding to ensure success of the Make in India campaign.”
“The Indian market for welding services, consumables and equipment is currently estimated at Rs 8,000 crore which is slated to double up in the next five years. However, structural flaws in the welding industry need to be dealt with in right earnest. India’s share rests at just 6% of the global welding market which is worth Rs 150,000 crore. Upgrading welding equipment and absorption of cutting edge technology can boost Indian welding exports of equipment and services specially to the GCC and ASEAN countries,” he concluded.
