Shining 3d launches its freescan UE Pro 3d Scanner

Metrology device manufacturer Shining 3D has launched its new FreeScan UE Pro 3D scanner.

The handheld metrology-grade machine is the latest iteration of the firm’s high-performance FreeScan series and is based on the previously launched FreeScan UE. Operating on Shining’s own blue laser technology, the UE Pro aims to combine accuracy and ergonomics for a wide variety of medium to large part scanning applications. This includes quality assurance, inspection, reverse engineering, and additive manufacturing.

We fuse the power of laser and photogrammetry in the FreeScan UE Pro to provide a highly efficient all-in-one solution for large-scale 3D inspection and reverse engineering.”

Based in China and founded in 2004, Shining 3D has proven itself to be a key player in the 3D scanning space. The firm’s system portfolio covers everything from handheld metrology devices to small-scale desktop inspection systems, with over 300 technology patents to boot.

For example, Shining’s flagship product line is the EinScan series, which now comprises the EinScan H and EinScan Pro devices. These scanners are designed for a more general range of applications in sectors such as automotive, art, healthcare, and computer graphics.

On the other hand, the FreeScan Trak CMM scanning system is designed for portability and wireless connectivity with accuracies of up to 0.03mm. With a recommended part size of 0.2 – 0.6m, the FreeScan Trak is well-suited to large part scanning in a variety of working environments.

The AutoScan Inspec is a fully automatic desktop scanner with a scanning area of just 100 x 100 x 75mm. Featuring an accuracy of up to 10 microns, the AutoScan Inspec uses two 5.0MP cameras for non-contact inspection and quality control applications.

The new FreeScan UE Pro packs a total of 32 eye-safe blue laser lines across three scan modes: 26 cross-lasers to scan large objects rapidly, five parallel laser lines for scanning finer details, and a single laser line for deep holes and narrow surfaces. Shining 3D has also integrated a built-in photogrammetric module capable of locking in the spatial position of an object with ease, meaning there’s no need to add reference points or stickers to scanned objects.

Looking at some of the key tech specs, the FreeScan UE Pro features a maximum accuracy of 0.02mm, a scan speed of 1,850,000 points/s, and a maximum scan range of 600 x 550mm. The handheld device is also designed to be comfortable to use for long periods of time, emulating the ergonomic form factor of its predecessor and weighing in at just 840g.

On the software side, Shining 3D has enabled over-the-air update functionality that alerts the user of free upgrades immediately. The scanner can also mesh with many of today’s commonly used 3D inspection and design software programs, including Geomagic Control X, Geomagic Design X, and Verisurf Inspect.
