High precision is a term many manufacturers of working machines, manipulators and robots boast of. The achieved precision of equipment largely depends on the precision of the transmission system that secures the transfer of the mechanical energy from the driving unit to the point of its use. The highest precision can be achieved with the use of zero backlash reducers.
ROTOLINEAR SYSTEMS offer TwinSpin is the commercial name of a bearing reducer made by the Company SPINEA, s.r.o. It is an original Slovak solution, which is protected worldwide by three patents. The term ‘bearing reducer’ describes the full integration of a zero backlash trochoidal reduction mechanism with a radial-axial output bearing into a single compact unit. The main benefit of the Slovak solution is a new method of transformation of the planet movement of trochoidal gears into the rotation movement of the output flange with a transformation element called a cross. The robustness of the transformation cross gives the TwinSpin reducer its high precision and linear loading characteristics. The benefit of the built-in radial-axial output bearing into a single unit is the possibility to load the reducer in the axial as well as radial directions without the need to strengthen it by expensive external bearings.

The most frequent application of TwinSpin reducers is in working equipment, specifically in tool exchangers; in B axes and in the positioning of worked pieces; in hinge joints of robots and manipulators; in positioning systems for welding, manipulation and assembly; and, last but not least, in camera and navigation systems in the defence industry.
The bearing reducers of SPINEA, s.r.o. are offered in four basic versions. Each version is specific by its parameters, which depend on a reducer’ field of use.
For the use in B axes of working equipment, i.e. controlled tilting of tool heads, a specially developed B version of the bearing reducer has been developed. Each possible imprecision in the positioning of the tool head during the working would cause an imprecise or poor quality surface of the worked piece, therefore the reducer has to secure smooth and precise movement. The reduction principle of TwinSpin reducers guarantees a high repeated positioning precision. The internal design of the B version is modified, so that the reducer is able to absorb all radial and axial forces that occur during working without causing an undesirable deviation or oscillation of the tool. Another specific requirement for a reducer for the B axis is the extremely high demand for the geometrical precision of its external dimensions. With special technological modifications, an axial runout of 0.005 mm on the biggest diameter of the output flange against the installation base and a radial runout of 0.005 mm on the installation dimension of the output flange against the rotation axis of the input shaft have been achieved.
