Please tell us something about Macpower?
Macpower is a 40-year-old group that is the prominent manufacturer of CNC machines. We manufacture a wide range of CNC machines such as turning centres, VMC's, Turn mill centres, and multi-axis machines. In the past five years, we have expanded our business in India and overseas. In India, we have penetrated various segments such as defence, critical export markets and we are one of the fastest growing businesses today.
How is the market in India right now?
Right now, India is a very demanding market where customers want better solutions and short delivery cycles with doorstep delivery. Times have changed where now, customer requirement is the most important factors. Government policies have been supportive, and that has helped in leading towards the increase in the demands of CNC machines in the Indian market.
What do you think about the government policies for doing business in India?
India is a diversified country, and for government policies to work effectively, it needs to be publicized all across.Though it is happening now, it is a slow process. The technology upgradation in India and the amount of investment in R&D done by an Indian company has been low in the past, but it is also picking up. For Macpower, we are integrating various processes and converting various technologies so that we can provide cost-effective and optimum solutions to our customers.
How is the Indian market performing as compared to the international market?
Though the percentage of import has gone down in the last five years, we are still importing of machine tools dependent on these imported machines for manufacturing. If we can fulfil our demands in the country, we don’t have to look outside for the solutions. Even the foreign players want joint ventures with Indian companies because India is potentially huge market.
How do you see the customer behaviour in India? Is the customer sensitive to price?
It depends upon the segment in which the customer is doing his business. Indian mentality is price sensitive so that factor does play a role. In recent times, in the Indian market, demand for complete solutions along with robotics has increased compared to the demand for just machines like tooled up solutions or jig fixtures. This is where the price sensitivity reduces, and application wise and solution wise demand is on the rise.
