Founded in 1983, CNC Software is one of the oldest companies in the PC-based CAD/CAM industry. The company was built on the concept of providing an inexpensive PC-based CAM system at a time when most other systems were expensive CAD-oriented products. CNC Software was one of the first companies to introduce CAD/CAM software designed for both the machinist and the engineer, providing a practical solution to both markets. While the original version of Mastercam focused on two-dimensional (2D) CAM, it was also one of the first micro-based CAM packages to include CAD capabilities. With Mastercam, the engineer could construct his or her own parts quickly and easily as well as machine them, for an affordable price.
In conversation with CNCTimes.com, Mastercam’s Director (Asia Pacific Sales), Mr. Gene Welti and Managing Director - Mastercam India, Mr. Vineet Seth share their views and the company’s vision.
The Excerpts:
Can you please tell us in brief about Mastercam?
Mastercam is the world’s leading CAD/CAM software. We are a privately-owned company based in the US and we focus solely on CAM. Our in-built CAD supports our CAM in working faster and more efficiently, and through this we make all our revenues.
What was the idea behind coming up with Mastercam India?
The most important thing behind Mastercam India is the talent we have in this country. With Mr. Vineet Seth and the other team members coming on board, it was once in a lifetime opportunity to bring this talent in, to grow Mastercam to the next level in India and we are all very excited about it.
How do you find the market in India?
India is a fast growing market as far as our business is concerned. While the US market grows slowly and consistently, here in India, we find a huge demand for machine jobshops and the potential to grow faster than our other territories is clearly visible. We also see steady growth here because of the number of entrepreneurs in India. Mastercam is ready to cater to the diverse needs of the Indian manufacturing industry.
Is there any difference between customers’ behaviour in India and other countries?
In a broad sense, I would say no. Everybody in every country take pride in the work they do, so it’s largely relative. However, if you are making medical parts or aircraft parts etc. the process usually follows a standard protocol and therefore will not be any different, regardless of Geographical boundaries. Having said so, a common behaviour on the contrary, from all our customers is to seek rock steady support, which we unhesitatingly provide.
What is the purpose of participating in IMTEX 2017?
IMTEX is very important for us as we want to get our name out there in the market. In other words, we want our brand to visible to all that are relevant to our business and what better a platform than IMTEX! This is the fourth year that we have been at IMTEX and it’s a premier show in this part of the world. Anyone having anything to do with the Machine Tool Industry is around here and we would like to continue to work with this ecosystem to solve pain areas in machining.
How Indian market is different from global markets?
The challenge in the Indian market is obviously the diverse markets, big geography, travel and getting around. You have to plan things for a little bit longer here. However, coming to this kind of show solves our problem. Also, Indian market is price sensitive and we want to serve the best to the market. Customers here, value return on investment, it’s not just a question of price alone. Our aim is to reach a wide variety of customers across all domains.
What is the USP and branding strategy of Mastercam?
The main USP of Mastercam is our resellers through whom we offer local support across the globe. If we talk about branding, we have been into this business for 34 years with 150,000 customers, they are our report card and brand ambassadors, all rolled up in one. We provide individual attention and best solution to every customer according to their needs. For us, our customers’ feedback is very important and we believe in what they say. We are CAM people, that’s what we do; that’s all we do!
