FARO is worldwide leader in 3D portable CMM solutions. The company develops and markets computer-aided measurement and imaging devices and software. Technology from FARO permits high-precision 3D measurement, imaging and comparison of parts and complex structures within production and quality assurance processes. The devices are used for inspecting components and assemblies, rapid prototyping, documenting large volume spaces or structures in 3D, surveying, and construction, as well as for investigation and reconstruction of accident sites or crime scenes. FARO's global headquarter is situated in Lake Mary, Florida.
With Indian machine tool industry all boost up to take on global challenge, Mr. Beng Chieh Quah, Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific, FARO shares his thoughts while speaking to Bhalchandra Chorghade, Editor, CNCTimes.com.

Please describe FARO’s journey in India.
FARO India’s journey started back in 2004 with New Delhi as head office. With just few people, who are the pillars for FARO India till now, we have Account Managers for each region in India. In New Delhi office, we have full-fledged operations, service and sales personnel while we also have branch offices in Chennai and Pune. With that we are increasing our customer base.
In your opinion, what is the behavioral pattern of Indian market? Whether it is price-sensitive or application-oriented?
Indian market is quite dynamic in nature. Considering India as a huge country, each region has its own infrastructural facility. Like southern and western India has more thrust on auto component manufacturing, northern India focuses as auto ancillary market. India is a major auto and machine tool manufacturing country for internal consumption as well as exports. When MNCs look for best of the product in reduced time, Indian companies too need to upgrade their inspection processes. So Indian market is application-oriented, considering price in this competitive market.
What is your company’s overall strategies as regards marketing and branding?
FARO invests hugely into devising marketing strategies. It is the campaign of the product along with its features that make a company for people. FARO has its presence in relevant manufacturing and facility management shows. Now, we are expanding our reach to forensics and public safety.
What is FARO’s USP?
To mention in one word, FARO’s products are portable and easy to learn. It is from testimonials that FARO users bank on time-saving and repeated accuracy. Flexibility is the key and considering this as focal, FARO products are manufactured.
Where do you think is Indian market placed vis-à-vis world market?
This is the topic which almost everybody is talking about. India is the best market for investment, manufacturing and receiving ROIs. With much-needed government support, manufacturing facilities are witnessing a new era. India has and will always welcome new technologies. Everyone eyes on India as an opportunity, be it an established brand or a start-up.
Is Indian market competent enough to meet global challenge? What’s your take?
India is already competing with global challenges. As mentioned above, because of the available infrastructure, cost and labour resources, India is meeting up with the global demand.
