By Niraj M Wanikar, Chief Editor, CNCTimes.com, 2016-03-15 11:22:00

Electronica Mechatronic Systems (India) Private Limited is a small scale company with 130 employees. The company was started in 1978 to meet the requirement of linear scales and DROs for its parent company Electronica Machine Tools Limited.
The company started in the industrial estate promoted by Maratha Chamber of Commerce for Electronic Industry. Soon it signed manufacturing license agreement with the company RSF in Austria for manufacturing optical linear scale. This technical tie up helped the company to get into international markets worldwide and fuelled the growth. We make variety of DROs and Linear scales to suit different applications like profile projectors, drilling machines, milling machines etc. These DRO-Linear scales help for measurements during process for correct positioning.
The next major step was to develop Magnetic Scale, then unknown to the world. With this technology, Electronica Mechatronics started offering Magnetic Tape scales up-to 50 meters, with 5 micron resolution and 10 micron/meter accuracy. The advantage with the magnetic scale is that it does not get affected by dirt, oil, water etc giving the correct measurements.
The challenge was to make this magnetic scale “Absolute”. With use of Incremental system, the user needs to reference the measurement scale after every power ON. This can lead to job rejections and more cycle time. Absolute measurement system does not need referencing after every power ON and can reduce the cycle time. These Absolute systems can be useful with CNC machines too. Now, the company has added Magnetic Rotary encoders to its product line.
Besides this, the company is also in the business of metrology to make post process inspections and measurements. Height Gauges, CMMs and vision inspection machines are made for 1D, 2D and 3D inspections. More details about the product are available on www.electronicaems.com.
The company has received ISO 9001-2008 certification and all its products are CE certified and ROHS compliant. Speaking to CNCTImes.com during IMTEX Forming 2016, the Executive Chairman of Electronica Mechatronic Systems (I) Pvt Ltd, Mr. P K Ratnaparkhi shares his views about the current market scenario as well as company’s future. The Excerpts:

Have you launched any new product/service in the IMTEX?
As our products are mainly used on machine tools, we always participated in IMTEX-Metal cutting. But this year we participated in forming machines as we now have the products which are also used on metal forming machines. Our inspections machines are used for inspection of sheet metal formed components too.

How was the response at IMTEX?
The IMTEX Forming exhibition is a very good show covering Indian manufacturers as well as foreign participation. We had visitors from all over India. We could get good OEM Enquiries.

How is Indian market performing with respect to manufacturing sector?
The Indian manufacturing sector is on increasing trend. The Union Government’s ‘Make in India’ policy will definitely improve the manufacturing sector. To make the sustainable growth in manufacturing, we need to look into different business sectors like automobiles, energy, electronics, power, defence etc.

What are the challenges being faced by the industry considering global scenario?
As an Indian manufacturer, we have the first challenge of offering competitive pricing for business in India as well as in the export market. To attract the global market, infrastructure development will be the most important and crucial challenge we will have to overcome. Consistent quality in manufacturing, keeping manufacturing costs under control and currency fluctuation will be key the areas considering global business.

Do you think that Indian market can overcome these challenges? How?
Definitely, we Indians can take care of these challenges to have the business growth. There is a lot of Intelligence in our country. The intelligence is backed up by hard work too. With this combined effort, Indian Industry can overcome the challenges and can make our country a ‘manufacturing hub’ for the global market. Ofcourse, the Industry will need support from Government in terms policies, taxation structure, support for export and currency control.

How Make in India campaign can help the manufacturing industry?
‘Make in India ‘Campaign is presently at its root level. But globally, Indian manufacturing is accepted for its quality and economic pricing. With special facilities under ‘Make in India ‘movement, there will be lot of new business opportunities. This will definitely help the whole industry to improve the business. As the government will be putting special efforts to make smart cities, new airports, improvement in infrastructure it will lead to consistent business growth.

Do you think that Indian market is price sensitive?
Frankly, all markets are price sensitive. Every industry is under price pressure because of customer demands. The Indian market is more price sensitive because of increase in cost of living, export price pressures, competition from other countries and demands of business growth.

What are your company’s plans for the next three years?
We have planned our Vision 2020. We will be a Rs 50 crore company by 2020. So, we are focusing all our energy to make this plan successful.
